“Where is Farris?” Stella repeated stubbornly.
Matthew, however, said nothing.
Stella threw back the covers on the bed, saying, “If you won’t tell me, I’ll go find him myself.”
Matthew held her before she could get out of bed and said, “Calm down, Stella. You just woke up. You should rest first. I’ll take you to see him later.”
“Matthew.” Stella had a bad feeling concerning Farris.
“Tell me the truth. Did something happen to Farris?” She was on the verge of tears by now.
Matthew stopped stroking her hair. He found it hard to speak when he saw her eyes glistening with tears.
He didn’t want to lie to her, nor did he want her to know the cruel truth.
Staring at him, Stella said, “You can tell me. I can take it.”
“Farris died before he could be taken to the hospital,” Matthew finally said.

Tears welled up in her eyes, and it felt like her heart was being squeezed.
She sobbed deeply, causing her to run out of breath.
Matthew held her in his arms. He hated to see her cry.
“I’ll compensate Farris’ family very well so that they never lack for the rest of their lives,” he said, patting Stella comfortingly on her back.
Stella finally stopped crying after a while. She raised her head and looked at Matthew.
